Who Are We?

The Rabat–Salé Tramway project is the result of long-term planning initiated through several earlier studies, including those conducted by Transroute in 1976 and further research carried out in 1982. In 2003, local authorities revived the idea of a dedicated public transport system to address the mobility challenges of the metropolitan area. Based on the design studies carried out in 2005 and 2006, the Bouregreg Valley Development Agency was mandated to lead the project in partnership with the municipalities of Rabat and Salé. In February 2007, His Majesty King Mohammed VI officially launched the works for the construction of two tramway lines. The first phase of the project was completed with the commercial launch of the tramway in May 2011.

Project ownership was entrusted to Rabat Region Mobility (RRM), formerly known as the Rabat–Salé Tramway Company (STRS). RRM is the public entity responsible for managing and developing the tramway network, ensuring its smooth operation and continued expansion in line with urban mobility needs.

In 2010 and again in 2020, RRM awarded the operation and maintenance contract to Transdev for a period of 10 years.

Transdev is an international operator specializing in public transport management. Operating in 19 countries, Transdev is the global leader in tramway operations.

Today, the Rabat–Salé tramway operates 2 lines, 43 stations, and 27 km of network, connecting the city centers of Rabat and Salé and providing access to major activity hubs, including administrative centers, universities, hospitals, railway and bus stations. With 1.9 million kilometers traveled, it transports more than 160,000 passengers daily and plays a key role in improving urban mobility.

The tramway provides more than 420 direct jobs and is fully aligned with a sustainable development and innovation strategy. Thanks to high-quality service validated by 5 ISO certifications (Occupational Health and Safety, Quality, Environment, efficient management of energy and water), it achieved a 96% satisfaction rate in 2024 while maintaining a low carbon footprint.
